At Kartal Auto, precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail define our work. Recently, we had the privilege of restoring the upholstery of a classic Aston Martin 1.5-Liter, a vehicle renowned for its elegance and heritage. During the process, we encountered several challenges, but our expertise allowed us to restore the car’s interior to its former glory.
Issues Identified & Solutions Implemented
1. Aged and Cracked Leather Upholstery
Issue: The original leather seats had significant wear, with visible cracks, discoloration, and loss of elasticity due to age.
Solution: We sourced high-quality, period-correct leather that matched the original specifications. Using expert leather restoration techniques, we carefully replaced worn-out sections while preserving as much of the original material as possible. The new upholstery was hand-stitched to match the original design, ensuring authenticity and durability.
2. Weak and Damaged Seat Padding
Issue: The seat padding had deteriorated, leading to discomfort and an uneven seating surface.
Solution: We reconstructed the seat padding using premium foam and horsehair—materials that align with vintage restoration standards. This not only restored the car’s comfort but also maintained its historical accuracy.
3. Deteriorated Carpeting and Trim
Issue: The floor carpeting and door trims were faded, frayed, and suffered from moisture damage.
Solution: We replaced the carpeting with high-grade wool fabric, cut and fitted to match the car’s original contours. The door trims were reupholstered using authentic materials, ensuring a seamless blend with the rest of the interior.
4. Faded and Brittle Dashboard Covering
Issue: The dashboard’s leather covering had become brittle, leading to cracks and peeling.
Solution: We carefully removed the old covering, treated the dashboard surface, and applied a fresh leather wrap that matched the original grain and texture. The finishing touches included precise stitching and conditioning for long-term preservation.
5. Worn-Out Convertible Top Lining
Issue: The inner lining of the convertible top had weakened over time, showing sagging and fabric wear.
Solution: We replaced the lining with a durable, weather-resistant fabric that complemented the car’s aesthetic. The installation was done meticulously to ensure a snug fit and smooth operation.
