Recently, we had the privilege of working on an Aston Martin DB12 Interior Design project. During this process, we identified several key issues that needed expert attention to bring the vehicle’s interior to the highest standard of luxury and refinement. Below, we’ve outlined the issues we found and the bespoke solutions we applied to enhance the DB12’s interior.
Issues found
1. Outdated and Worn Upholstery
Issue: The upholstery, particularly in high-traffic areas such as the seats and door panels, had begun to show signs of wear, including fading, creasing, and some minor discoloration. The once pristine materials were no longer maintaining the high standard of luxury expected in a vehicle like the DB12.
Solution:
- We meticulously restored the upholstery by reupholstering key areas with premium leather sourced from top-quality tanneries.
- The leather was conditioned and dyed to match the original color, reviving its rich, lustrous finish.
- We applied a protective leather coating to safeguard against future wear and environmental factors, ensuring long-lasting durability and elegance.
2. Inefficient Use of Interior Space
Issue: The interior, while beautiful, lacked certain elements that could optimize space and enhance functionality, especially for those looking for both luxury and practicality. This included limited storage options and a lack of personalized features that could make the driving experience more tailored to the owner’s needs.
Solution:
- We redesigned and restructured several interior sections to improve the ergonomics of the space, ensuring that every inch of the cabin was both functional and luxurious.
- We integrated hidden compartments in the center console and door panels to provide more storage space without compromising the overall aesthetic of the cabin.
- For ultimate personalization, we customized the center console layout and dashboard arrangement, ensuring a seamless blend of functionality and elegance.
3. Lack of Modern Technology Integration
Issue: The original interior did not fully integrate modern technologies that are becoming standard in luxury vehicles. Features like wireless charging, advanced lighting systems, and intuitive user interfaces were missing or outdated.
Solution:
- We retrofitted the cabin with state-of-the-art technology, including wireless charging pads, advanced multimedia systems, and integrated ambient lighting.
- The ambient lighting was customized to provide a calming and customizable atmosphere, with multiple settings that adapt to the time of day or mood.
- We also upgraded the infotainment system to include a high-definition touchscreen interface, offering smooth integration with mobile devices and seamless control of the vehicle’s features.
4. Dull and Underwhelming Dashboard Design
Issue: The dashboard, while functional, lacked the visual impact and cohesive design that matches the DB12’s exceptional performance and luxury. The overall look was dated and did not fully reflect the high standards of the Aston Martin brand.
Solution:
- We overhauled the dashboard with premium materials like carbon fiber, wood veneers, and brushed aluminum to create a more dynamic and modern aesthetic.
- The instrument cluster was redesigned to offer enhanced readability and functionality, incorporating both analog and digital elements for a perfect blend of classic luxury and modern technology.
- A customized dashboard layout was created to incorporate the latest in user-friendly controls and intuitive design, making it not only visually stunning but also incredibly practical.
5. Insufficient Soundproofing
Issue: While the DB12 is known for its performance and driving experience, road noise and external sounds could be heard inside the cabin, reducing the overall comfort and serenity that a luxury vehicle should provide.
Solution:
- We added high-quality soundproofing materials throughout the cabin, including in the door panels, floor mats, and under the headliner, to significantly reduce road noise and vibrations.
- The materials used were chosen not only for their noise-dampening properties but also for their lightweight and durable qualities, ensuring that the overall performance of the vehicle was not compromised.
