At Kartal Auto, we specialize in adding extraordinary details to luxury vehicles, elevating both the aesthetic appeal and the overall driving experience. Recently, we had the pleasure of completing a Star Light Headliner Installation on an Aston Martin DB12, adding a truly magical touch to the vehicle’s interior. During this process, we identified several issues that needed expert attention to ensure that the final result was nothing short of perfection. Below, we outline the challenges we faced and the customized solutions we implemented to give the DB12 an interior that truly shines.

Issues found

1. Inconsistent Fiber Optic Lighting

Issue: During the initial inspection, we found that the fiber optic lighting system intended to create the starry effect was inconsistent. Some areas of the headliner were either too dim or completely without light, resulting in a patchy and uneven starry sky effect.

Solution:

  • We replaced the faulty fiber optic strands with new, high-quality optical fibers, ensuring that the lights distributed evenly across the headliner for a flawless starry effect.
  • Each fiber was carefully woven into the headliner material, ensuring a uniform and bright display, with no areas left dim or patchy.
  • The light intensity was adjusted for optimal visibility, providing a soft, ambient glow that enhances the luxurious feel of the DB12’s cabin.

2. Poor Wiring Connections

Issue: The wiring connections to the fiber optic lighting system were improperly installed, leading to flickering lights or sections of the headliner that would intermittently fail to light up. This not only disrupted the star light effect but also risked causing future electrical issues.

Solution:

  • We completely rewired the entire fiber optic system, ensuring that all connections were secure, insulated, and placed in optimal positions to avoid interference or overheating.
  • We replaced any damaged wiring with premium-grade cables that were designed to handle the power requirements of the lighting system without compromising safety or longevity.
  • The wiring was expertly hidden behind the headliner to maintain a clean, seamless look, allowing the stars to take center stage without visible distractions.

3. Insufficient Power Supply for Lights

Issue: The power supply for the fiber optic lights was inadequate, causing certain sections of the star light to be dim or not illuminate at all. The lack of sufficient power supply was affecting the consistency and brilliance of the starry effect.

Solution:

  • We upgraded the power supply unit, ensuring that it could deliver the required wattage to light the entire headliner evenly and brightly.
  • The power supply was calibrated and tested to ensure it was capable of maintaining consistent illumination for years, while avoiding overloading or power surges.
  • We also included fuse protection to safeguard the entire system from any electrical issues that could occur over time.

4. Visible Fiber Optic Strands

Issue: The placement of the fiber optic strands was not discreet, with the ends of the fibers visible in certain areas. This reduced the aesthetic appeal of the star light effect, as the light should appear to emerge from the fabric seamlessly.

Solution:

  • We carefully repositioned the fiber optic strands within the headliner fabric, ensuring that the fiber ends were hidden, creating a flawless and smooth transition between the fabric and the glowing lights.
  • The fibers were carefully woven into the headliner material in a way that allowed the light to emanate evenly without any unsightly visible fibers.
  • We also ensured that the end points of the fibers were cut and finished with precision, creating a professional and seamless look that contributed to the overall luxury appeal of the cabin.

5. Inadequate Control System

Issue: The star light system did not have an intuitive, easily accessible control system. The original system was basic, limiting the ability to adjust the brightness, pattern, or color of the star effect, which detracted from the luxury experience.

Solution:

  • We installed a customized control system that allowed the owner to adjust the brightness, intensity, and even the pattern of the star lights, creating a dynamic, adaptable ambiance.
  • The controls were integrated into the vehicle’s existing infotainment system, allowing for easy and seamless adjustments directly from the central touchscreen.
  • For added convenience, we added remote control functionality, giving the driver the ability to control the star lights with the touch of a button, even from outside the vehicle.
