Our most recent project involved a complete interior design restoration for an iconic Aston Martin DB6. During the process, we uncovered several issues that required expert attention to ensure the vehicle’s interior was not only restored to its former glory but also upgraded for modern comfort and functionality. Identified Issues and Solutions:
- Aged Dashboard and Instrument Cluster
- Issue: The dashboard and instrument cluster had deteriorated over time, with faded gauges, cracked wood trim, and outdated components. This affected the overall visual appeal and functionality of the interior.
- Solution: We meticulously restored the dashboard, refinishing the wood trim to its original rich, polished look. The gauges were reconditioned to ensure they worked properly and had clear visibility, while any worn-out parts were replaced with authentic or custom-made components. We also enhanced the ergonomics of the dashboard layout for improved ease of use, integrating modern switches while maintaining the vintage aesthetic of the DB6.
- Worn Leather Upholstery and Seating
- Issue: The leather upholstery had suffered from years of use, with noticeable wear, cracks, and fading on the seats, door panels, and armrests. This resulted in an uncomfortable and unsightly cabin.
- Solution: We carefully cleaned and restored the leather, re-dyeing faded areas to match the original color and reconditioning the material to restore its soft texture. In sections where the leather was beyond repair, we used period-correct leather to replace it seamlessly. The seats were also re-cushioned with high-density foam, ensuring both comfort and a restored, luxurious look.
- Deteriorating Carpeting and Floor Mats
- Issue: The carpets had become faded, threadbare, and worn in high-traffic areas, diminishing the car’s overall aesthetic and comfort.
- Solution: We removed the old carpet and replaced it with premium wool carpeting that matched the original design and color scheme of the DB6.
