At Kartal Auto, we pride ourselves on our ability to restore and elevate luxury automobiles to their former glory. Recently, we had the opportunity to work on a Bentley Turbo R, an iconic luxury sedan known for its high-performance capabilities and unmatched comfort. During the interior design restoration, we discovered several issues that needed attention to ensure the cabin maintained its premium feel and comfort. Here, we’ll share the issues we identified and the solutions we implemented.
Issues Identified:
1. Worn Leather Upholstery
- Problem: The leather upholstery on the seats, door panels, and dashboard had signs of cracking, fading, and wear, particularly in high-contact areas. This was especially noticeable on the driver’s seat and armrests, which had become stiff and uncomfortable over time.
- Solution: We replaced the damaged leather with premium-grade hides, matched to the original Bentley specifications. Using custom-dyeing techniques, we restored the leather to its original color and then applied a specialized leather conditioner to rehydrate and soften the material. Hand-stitching was used to ensure the seams were tightly sealed, and we added a protective coating to prevent future damage.
2. Scratched and Dull Wood Veneer
- Problem: The wood veneer on the dashboard, center console, and door panels had become scratched, discolored, and worn down. The once-glossy finish had dulled, losing the rich appearance of the wood.
- Solution: We carefully removed the affected veneer and sanded it down, restoring the original wood. For areas that could not be repaired, we sourced authentic Bentley wood veneers to match the original finish. We refinished the wood with a high-gloss lacquer to give it a fresh, polished appearance, bringing back the luxury look and feel of the cabin.
3. Worn and Stained Carpets
- Problem: The wool carpeting had sustained significant wear, with visible stains and discoloration, especially in the high-traffic areas like the footwells and under the seats.
- Solution: After deep cleaning, we replaced the damaged sections with custom-fit wool carpets that matched the original Bentley design. We also added luxurious wool floor mats that help preserve the carpet while adding extra comfort and elegance to the cabin.
4. Sagging Headliner
- Problem: The headliner in the Bentley Turbo R had begun to sag, and there were signs of staining and discoloration, making the interior look less pristine.
- Solution: We removed the old headliner and replaced it with premium Alcantara fabric. This high-quality material not only restored the aesthetic but also improved the overall feel of the cabin, providing a sleek and luxurious finish that complements the other interior elements.
5. Compression in Seat Foam
- Problem: The seat foam had become compressed, resulting in uncomfortable seating, particularly in the front and rear seats. The loss of padding led to a less supportive and less comfortable driving experience.
- Solution: We replaced the old foam with high-density, ergonomic foam that conforms to the body’s natural contours. This enhanced both the comfort and support of the seats, ensuring the driver and passengers enjoy a more relaxed and luxurious experience on long drives.
