At Kartal Auto, we take great pride in our commitment to excellence and precision in every automotive upholstery job we handle. Recently, we had the privilege of working on the iconic Lamborghini Countach – a true masterpiece of engineering and design. As we completed the upholstery work, we encountered several challenges that required our expertise to resolve. Here’s a detailed overview of the issues we found during the job, along with the solutions we implemented to ensure that this classic car remained in perfect condition.
Issues & Solutions
1. Worn-out Seat Cushions and Foam Degradation
Issue: Upon inspecting the seats, we found that the foam underneath the leather upholstery was heavily degraded due to years of use. The foam had become soft and uneven, leading to discomfort for anyone sitting in the seats. This was a common issue in vintage vehicles where the interior components weren’t always designed to last for decades.
Solution: We replaced the old, worn-out foam with high-quality, custom-cut foam that matched the original specifications of the Lamborghini Countach. The new foam provides superior comfort, restoring the plush feel of the seats while ensuring durability. Additionally, we ensured the foam was properly shaped to support the contours of the body, ensuring the car’s seats were as comfortable as they were when the car first rolled off the production line.
2. Leather Cracking and Fading
Issue: The leather upholstery, while still luxurious, had developed cracks and noticeable fading due to exposure to sunlight, heat, and general wear. The rich color that once defined the Countach’s interior was starting to show signs of age, which detracted from its overall aesthetic.
Solution: We performed an in-depth cleaning and conditioning process to restore the leather’s appearance. After thoroughly cleaning the leather, we used premium, professional-grade dyes and restorers to bring back the vibrant color. We also applied a protective layer to safeguard against future fading and cracking, ensuring the leather would maintain its luxury look for years to come.
3. Stretched and Misaligned Upholstery
Issue: Over time, the upholstery on certain sections of the car’s interior had become stretched and misaligned. This was particularly visible on the seat bolsters, door panels, and rear trim, where the fabric didn’t sit properly and had become loose.
Solution: We carefully removed the misaligned upholstery and re-stretched it to fit the contours of the car’s interior. Special care was taken to ensure the leather and stitching were aligned perfectly, maintaining the luxurious, tailored look Lamborghini is known for. We used a combination of hand-stitching and machine stitching, following the original design, to ensure precision and consistency throughout.
4. Worn-out Dashboard and Console Upholstery
Issue: The dashboard and center console, which are key focal points of the Lamborghini Countach’s interior, had suffered from noticeable wear and tear. The vinyl covering was cracking, and the padding had flattened, compromising both the look and feel of the car’s luxurious interior.
Solution: We reupholstered the dashboard and center console with high-quality vinyl that closely matched the original material. The padding underneath was replaced with a more durable, thicker foam to restore the luxurious feel and support. Every stitch and seam was meticulously crafted to ensure it was consistent with the Countach’s high standards, and we also used a protective coating to prevent further deterioration.
5. Fading and Deteriorating Carpets
Issue: The carpets inside the Lamborghini Countach had begun to show signs of wear, with faded colors and some areas that had become matted. This is a common issue in classic cars, as the carpets are exposed to dirt, moisture, and sunlight.
Solution: We replaced the carpets with custom-fit, high-quality materials that matched the original factory specifications. The new carpet was carefully fitted into place, and additional sound-dampening material was applied underneath to ensure the vehicle’s interior remained as quiet as possible. The rich color was restored, adding to the overall aesthetic of the car’s interior.
