Recently, we had the honor of completing a ceramic coating application on a stunning Lamborghini Urraco. This high-performance coating provides a durable protective layer that shields the paint from contaminants, water, and scratches. However, during the application, our experts identified several issues that needed to be addressed before the coating could be applied. Here’s a detailed look at the problems we encountered and the solutions we implemented to ensure the Urraco received the best protection possible.
Identified Issues & Solutions:
- Paint Imperfections (Swirl Marks & Scratches):
- Problem: The Lamborghini Urraco’s paint had several imperfections, including swirl marks and minor scratches, likely caused by improper washing and environmental exposure. These imperfections would have been more noticeable after the ceramic coating application, affecting the car’s flawless finish.
- Solution: To resolve this, our team performed paint correction using a multi-stage polishing process. We meticulously removed the swirl marks, scratches, and any other paint imperfections. The result was a smooth, flawless surface, ready to receive the ceramic coating. This ensured that the coating would adhere perfectly, offering maximum protection and shine.
- Oxidation and Faded Paint Areas:
- Problem: Certain sections of the Urraco’s paint had suffered from oxidation, which caused fading and dullness. This not only impacted the visual appeal but also made the paint less suitable for bonding with the ceramic coating.
- Solution: We first performed a decontamination wash to remove built-up dirt, grime, and contaminants. Then, we applied a special oxidation removal compound to restore the affected areas and bring back the original vibrancy of the paint. Afterward, we polished the surface to remove any remaining residues, ensuring the paint was in optimal condition for the ceramic coating.
- Inconsistent Clear Coat Thickness:
- Problem: The Urraco’s clear coat was found to be inconsistent in thickness across different panels. This could result in uneven bonding of the ceramic coating and cause patches of the paint to look different after application.
- Solution: We carefully measured the clear coat thickness using a specialized gauge to assess the extent of the inconsistency. In areas with thinner clear coat layers, we applied an extra layer of clear coat to even out the surface. Once the clear coat was uniform, we moved forward with the ceramic coating application, ensuring consistent results across the entire vehicle.
- Surface Contaminants (Tar, Sap, and Iron Deposits):
- Problem: The paint had been affected by stubborn contaminants such as tree sap, road tar, and iron deposits, which had bonded to the surface over time. These contaminants can cause poor adhesion of the ceramic coating and affect the overall finish.
- Solution: We used clay bar treatment to gently remove any surface contaminants. This technique effectively eliminated tar, sap, and iron deposits, leaving the paint completely clean and smooth. Following the clay bar treatment, we performed a final wash to ensure that no contaminants remained before applying the ceramic coating.
- Improper Pre-Coating Surface Preparation:
- Problem: In some areas of the Urraco, there were leftover residues from previous waxes and sealants that could interfere with the ceramic coating’s adhesion.
- Solution: We performed a panel wipe to remove any residual waxes, oils, and sealants that may have remained on the surface. This ensured that the ceramic coating would adhere directly to the paint, providing a strong bond for long-lasting protection.
