At Kartal Auto, we recently had the honor of wrapping a Rolls-Royce Phantom I, a true classic that demands the highest level of craftsmanship and care. Custom wrapping offers a unique way to enhance a vehicle’s appearance while also providing protection to the original paint. When it comes to working on an iconic vehicle like the Phantom I, every detail matters. During the wrapping process, we encountered a few challenges that needed special attention. Below, we outline the issues we identified and the solutions we implemented to ensure the Phantom I received a flawless and durable wrap.
Issue Found:
1. Issue: Existing Paint Condition
- Problem: The original paint on the Rolls-Royce Phantom I had aged, with some sections showing signs of wear, minor chips, and fading. This could potentially interfere with the wrap’s ability to adhere properly and lead to visible imperfections.
- Solution: We began by thoroughly inspecting the paint and performing a detailed cleaning and preparation process. We carefully polished the car to eliminate minor scratches and imperfections and filled any small chips to create a smooth surface. By ensuring the underlying paint was as smooth as possible, we set a strong foundation for the wrap to adhere securely and uniformly.
2. Issue: Complex Curves and Intricate Details
- Problem: The Phantom I features several complex curves and intricate details, especially around the bumpers, side panels, and hood. These areas present challenges in achieving a perfect, wrinkle-free wrap, as the vinyl needs to be stretched and molded precisely around tight curves and edges.
- Solution: Our experienced wrapping specialists used advanced techniques to apply the vinyl smoothly around all complex curves. We utilized heat tools to gently stretch the vinyl to fit the vehicle’s unique contours without compromising the material. This process allowed the wrap to form flawlessly around every corner, edge, and curve of the Phantom I.
3. Issue: Vinyl Shrinkage and Edge Lifting
- Problem: One challenge with wrapping older vehicles like the Phantom I is the potential for vinyl shrinkage, which can occur over time or during the installation process. Shrinking can cause the edges of the wrap to lift, especially in areas where the vinyl stretches around curves.
- Solution: To prevent shrinkage and edge lifting, we used a combination of premium-grade vinyl and advanced application techniques. Our team ensured the wrap was applied with precision, carefully smoothing out any potential wrinkles or bubbles. After installation, we secured the edges with heat and pressure to ensure a lasting, smooth bond with the car’s surface.
4. Issue: Uneven Surface Texture Due to Old Seals
- Problem: Some of the Phantom I’s seals, including door trims and window seals, had become brittle or worn over time, affecting the smoothness of the wrap’s application in those areas. Wrapping around these seals can be tricky, as any rough surface can cause the wrap to wrinkle or peel prematurely.
- Solution: We carefully cleaned and treated the seals before beginning the wrapping process to ensure that they would not interfere with the vinyl’s adhesion. In areas where seals or trim posed a challenge, we used precision cutting tools to trim the vinyl carefully and neatly, ensuring no wrinkles or lifting around sensitive areas.
5. Issue: Custom Design Requests and Color Matching
- Problem: The client had a specific vision for the wrap, which included custom colors and a combination of gloss and matte finishes. Achieving a perfect match in color and finish required careful planning and execution, especially for a vehicle as prestigious as the Rolls-Royce Phantom I.
- Solution: Our team worked closely with the client to ensure that the custom design and color scheme were exactly as envisioned. We sourced high-quality, automotive-grade vinyl in the specified colors and finishes. Using advanced wrapping techniques, we applied the vinyl in a way that seamlessly blended gloss and matte sections, creating a stunning and unique look that complemented the Phantom I’s luxury status.
