At Kartal Auto, we pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality protection and care for your vehicle. Recently, we had the pleasure of completing a Paint Protection Film (PPF) installation on a Maserati Coupe in Dubai. During the process, we encountered a few issues, but our experienced team swiftly addressed each one, ensuring that the vehicle received the perfect protective finish.
Here’s a breakdown of the issues we found during the PPF installation and the solutions we implemented:
Issue Found:
1. Paint Imperfections (Scratches & Swirl Marks)
Issue:
Upon inspection, we discovered scratches and swirl marks on the Maserati Coupe’s paint. These imperfections can be caused by improper washing techniques or surface contaminants, and if left untreated, they can affect the final appearance after the PPF is applied.
Solution:
Before applying the PPF, our team performed a comprehensive paint correction process. Using advanced polishing tools and compounds, we carefully removed the scratches and swirl marks. This ensured that the paint was perfectly smooth, allowing the PPF to adhere properly and give the Maserati Coupe a flawless finish.
2. Surface Contaminants & Water Spots
Issue:
During the preparation stage, we identified surface contaminants such as dust, water spots, and small debris trapped in the paint. These contaminants can compromise the PPF’s adhesion and cause bubbles or imperfections in the film.
Solution:
To ensure a clean surface, we conducted a thorough decontamination wash and used a clay bar to remove any embedded contaminants. We also performed a spot removal process for the water spots, ensuring that the surface was completely smooth and clean before applying the PPF.
3. Challenging Curves & Edges
Issue:
The Maserati Coupe’s design features several complex curves and edges, making the PPF installation more challenging. Applying the film to these areas without causing wrinkles or air bubbles requires precision and care.
Solution:
Our expert team used precision cutting tools and heat application techniques to ensure that the PPF conformed seamlessly to the car’s curves. For tricky edges, we used overlapping techniques and custom trimming to ensure the PPF adhered perfectly without any visible seams or imperfections.
4. Air Bubbles & Wrinkles
Issue:
During the initial application, air bubbles and wrinkles formed in some areas of the PPF. This is a common issue when working with films, especially in areas with high humidity or temperature variations.
Solution:
We immediately used a squeegee to work out the bubbles and wrinkles while applying heat to make the film more pliable. The film was carefully repositioned to smooth out any imperfections. After the initial installation, we allowed the PPF to properly cure, ensuring that the film adhered smoothly and evenly to every panel.
5. Slight Adhesion Issues on Complex Areas
Issue:
We observed some adhesion challenges around intricate areas such as the side mirrors and wheel arches. These areas can sometimes have difficulty bonding with the PPF, especially with intricate contours and angles.
Solution:
To resolve this, we applied additional heat and pressure in these complex areas, ensuring that the PPF conformed to every curve. We also used special adhesive primers in areas where adhesion was a concern to ensure long-term durability and flawless protection.
